Use Chandeliers and Wall Sconces to Redecorate on a Budget

Every now and then you might just want to make a decorative change in your home. You might be getting a bit tired of how it looks, or you might want to improve the value of the home. In either case, there are options for every budget out there. There are many things you can do on a limited budget that will have a big impact. One thing that you should consider if you are on a tight decorating budget is chandeliers or candle wall sconces in your room to enhance the look and feel that you are going for with your redecorating project.

In general lighting is usually not one of the largest expenses in a redecorating project. However, changing the lighting can really change the look and feel of the room. You can get lighting fixtures that have vastly different looks, and you can also use them to redirect the light in the room to highlight different areas where you might have something special you would like people to notice. Fundamentally, a room needs to be well lit. By directing light properly in the room, it will bring everything into focus in the room. Wall sconces can be used for this purpose as long as you get the right kind of fixtures.

The fixtures that you use can be very minimalist look, and are meant to make the lights less of a focus in the room, or they can be very fancy like many chandeliers are, and meant to be the focus of the room. Usually when you walk into a room with unique light fixtures like wall sconces and chandeliers they are one of the first things that you see; which is why they can be so useful in giving a new look and feel to a room without spending a lot of money.

Of course you will probably want to change more than just your lighting when you redecorate, but simple and inexpensive changes like repainting the room and moving the furniture around will also make the room feel totally different. These types of things are good places to start with no matter what your redecorating budget may be.

Chandelier Lighting– How To Choose

Chandeliers can create interest and beauty in your home. In fact, because of today's large selection of chandelier lighting, especially on the internet, you can find the right type of lighting for just about anywhere in your home, no matter the size of the room or style. There is truly something perfect for everyone.

Before you even begin shopping for chandelier lighting you first need to be familiar with the types of lighting available. Check out rustic chandeliers, this is lighting that is made to have a very rustic appearance to it that can transform a room. If you happen to reside in a log home or have a rustic-designed home this would be perfect. You can also choose form antler lighting, wall sconce styles, and much more.

Establishing your lighting requirements: No matter which style you are looking to accomplish, you need to start by determining how much money you want to spend, whether or not you want just one chandelier or if you need a center piece and accent lighting, and the size of the space you are working with. You don't want to overwhelm a small room with a chandelier that is too large.

Creating a look: For a nice large room, consider a large chandelier at the center of the space and then add accents. Wall sconces are a fantastic way to complement your chandelier. Many sconces are made to coordinate perfectly with chandelier lighting. Wrought iron is a very popular option for this decorating style. The other really fabulous thing about decorating this way is that you now have levels of lighting in the space. If you need a lot of light, you can turn on the chandelier and all of the accent lighting. If you want a dim level, you can just do the sconces, and so on.

It is also very important to measure your space. You need to know how large of a chandelier your room can handle, and you also need to know how low it can hang in the space without being too low. If you have a large vaulted ceiling, you have a lot of leeway, because you can adjust the chandelier until it's perfect. If you have a standard ceiling height, you need a smaller chandelier that will be flush to the ceiling. If your chandelier is going over a dining table, then the chandelier can hang a little lower and it will be okay.

If you are going to do your own wiring, make sure you do your homework. The lighting you purchase will come with instructions, be sure to follow it very closely. Please make safety your number one priority. If at any point you become overwhelmed with the project, please consider hiring and electrician.

Tips on Creating a Great Bathroom Lighting Design

When it comes to bathroom lighting design, bathrooms are likely given the least attention of all the areas in the home. But really a bathroom can mean good investment and it's an area of the home where you spend a lot of time, it should be a comfortable space. One major design feature is lighting.. As the bathroom is popularly becoming a space to relax and unwind, the lighting calls for more consideration. And when it's appropriately applied, the result is well worth it. Consider an online lighting store to figure out your style and your price range.

Good bathroom lighting design applies a series of layers. In this case, you apply enough light where it is required for showers, putting on makeup and shaving, while on the other hand, you apply other light sources to improve the overall ambience of the room.

By putting together functionality, atmosphere and highlighting, you bathroom lighting concepts will become something you and your guests can marvel at in for many years to come. First, you need to think about the overall ambience you want to develop for your bathroom. Establish how your bathroom should feel, and then mentally create concepts for bathroom lighting that will generate the desired tone.

For something more peaceful, think about the atmosphere of a low voltage mini pendant lamp located in the middle of the bathroom ceiling. If you wish to generate a feeling of more space, you can try modern cascading bulbs. For something more interesting and intricate, consider installing a chandelier-this is ideal for larger bathrooms or bathrooms that need a bit of spicing up.

Now let's get into the practical stuff. A poorly lit shower area or vanity can make you not want to use your bathroom. After all, it is a space where we spend a lot of time. Handle this problem by adding a vanity light above the mirror. You could even add bulbs around your vanity mirror to replicate that old Hollywood appearance. Wall sconces are great for this.

You could employ a wide range of recessed lights for lighting up all kinds of bathtubs and showers. Choose lighting fixtures that give off a powerful, clear shine without the starkness of overhead fixtures.

Of course, you should always try to stay safe when applying any lighting fixture to your bathroom. For instance, fixtures, especially those mainly used for practical purposes such as illuminating shower areas and bathtubs, should be able to provide enough light. If you don't like the aesthetic of ordinary fluorescent lighting, you can use a low voltage recessed light or frosted glass domed light with reflector.

Basic shapes include round, square, rectangular and even multi-tiered designs. Like most other chandeliers, they can be shipped already wired and set up for electric lights, but these items in particular can also be built to accept candles, for the ultimate in traditional ambiance.

Using Chandelier Lighting to Create a New Look

You can gain a whole new look for a room just by changing the lighting. Different types of fixtures give off different impressions and can create a new style, while also providing different types of light. One type of lighting that can make a big impact is chandelier lighting. Removing a fixture with one or just a few bulbs and replacing it with a chandelier will make a big difference in the appearance of your room.

One important thing to consider when purchasing chandelier lighting is the size of the chandelier. You want it to be the right size so that it won't look too small or be too overpowering. One method for deciding the diameter of the chandelier is to take the length and width of the room in feet and add them together, and then get a chandelier that is that many inches across. For low ceilings you need to be sure to get a chandelier that hangs closer to the ceiling, while for very high ceilings you want one that will hang lower down so it will not appear too small.

Once you know the size of the chandelier lighting that you require, you can choose the style that you would like. You will want to make sure that the style of the chandelier fits in with the rest of your decorating scheme, however. You can consider options such as wrought iron chandeliers, which would look nice if you have used wrought iron in other areas of the decor. You might also consider a candle chandelier.

Keep in mind that different styles of chandelier lighting will give off different types of light. If you want to keep things bright, you will want a lot of bulbs and you will want them to be open. Another option is to get one that focuses the light up to the ceiling, so you get a more gentle and diffused light. The purpose of the room might help to determine which type you should get. Obviously a study would require a brighter type of lighting to make sure you could see your documents well. However, a dining room might be a good place to use more diffused light to make your meal time a bit more romantic.

There are so many different styles and types of chandeliers out there, it might help you to decide if you just take a look at what is available and see what you like. You can use your measurements to narrow down the options a bit and come to a final selection.

Choosing Antler Lighting For Your Home

For those of us who love the outdoors, the idea of bringing the beauty of mountain forests into our home is an appealing one. There are many ways to incorporate the majesty of the outdoors into your home decor, one of which is through antler lighting. Chandelliers and lamps crafted out of real deer or elk antlers can give any room in your home a touch of the outdoors, while also adding a touch of style and class too. In order to choose the right piece, you'll first need to consider what type of piece you would like, and what room would be appropriate for it.

When considering which room you would be ideal for antler lamps or chandeliers, you'll need to consider their unique nature. Antler lighting is best suited for rooms that already have an outdoor or hunting theme, or that are decorated fairly neutral. You would be surprised at how well an elk antler floor lamp meshes with existing decorations, especially if the room they are in doesn't have a dominant theme. And of course the addition of other antler or outdoor pieces, such as elk antler pot racks or art work, can tie antler lighting into any rooms decor. Another thing you'll need to consider is if there is enough room to accommodate an antler piece.

Due to the fact that they are made out of antlers, each piece of lighting has its own unique shape. You'll want to make sure that whichever room you would like your antler lighting to go in is big enough to accommodate it, or that it has appropriate surfaces for placing lamps. Ideal surfaces for antler lamps are both sturdy, and high enough off the floor to keep children from pulling them over. While beautiful, antler lighting can pose danger to small children, due to the sharp points of the antlers themselves. As with most decor items, antler lighting can be perfectly safe for homes with children, as long as the proper precautions are followed.

When you have made these decisions, you'll find it much easier finding the right piece for your home. Antler lighting can be purchased from a number of companies online that specialize in lighting, antler art, or sometimes from local artisans. Sometimes the most unique lighting pieces come from local artists who think outside the mainstream, so be sure to shop around for the best piece for your home.

Accent or Create a Look with Chandelier Lighting

Using chandeliers in the home shouldn't be restricted to a dining room or entry way. Chandeliers can be used in many rooms in your house. Chandelier lighting makes a statement about your home or office. It allows you to think outside of the box and be more creative with your lighting needs. It can create a cozy and comfortable feel to the space and it can be as unique as you are. Chandeliers come in many shapes, sizes and styles. Some can be traditional, using elaborate scroll-work and leaded crystals and others can be whimsical, shaped as animals or trees. All types of chandeliers can be mixed to create your own style and taste.

Rustic chandeliers look great in a home that's decorated in a southwestern style. Antler chandeliers, in particular, add a sense of adventure and a rustic feel to the home. Mission style chandeliers can be used with arts and crafts style furnishings or can also add a southwest flair. Tiffany style chandeliers are perfect in a Victorian decor. Cottage chandelier lighting gives a space a light-hearted feel and coastal style chandeliers offer New England charm to any room.

Ideally, rooms should have a layered lighting look. You should use several different forms of lighting in the same room and throughout the house. Lamps, chandelier lighting and candles can all co-exist comfortably in the same area. Wall sconces and can lights can also be added for more layers. You should never be afraid of having too much lighting in a room, no matter the size. Lighting should be seen as the accessories of a room and chandelier lighting as jewelry. It creates a warm and interesting effect all over the home.

Chandeliers can be used in unexpected places, like over a breakfast nook or in a dark corner. You can place chandelier lighting in a bathroom or in a family room. Hang a whimsical chandelier in a nursery to add to the decor of the room. You can transform a non-working chandelier by using candles instead of bulbs in it. Installing several chandeliers in the same room can be romantic or fun. A large space can hold two or more chandeliers without problems. And hanging them at different levels gives a fresh look to the room. Chandelier lighting can also be used outdoors. You can put one on your porch or gazebo, if it has an outside rating.

Always remember when installing your new light fixture to work with a partner and turn off the electricity to the home. If you are not comfortable with electrical projects, please hire an electrician.

Antler Lighting: How It’s Crafted and Uses

Antler lighting fixtures are available in an incredible range of styles, sizes, and price ranges. These amazing works of art go through an incredible process that relies both on nature and artistry. Because of both of those factors, you will find that although each fixture is similar, no two are quite exactly alike, creating a wonderfully unique home décor item that can be used in the most rustic of designed homes all the way to being used as a subtle touch of western flair.

The most important component in the manufacturing process here are the antlers themselves. The process begins in the spring when the mule and white tail deer shed their antlers when they begin to grow new. Male deer are known to shed antler racks with up to ten points. The shed antlers are collected by cowboys and ranchers and are then purchased by lighting manufacturers. This creates an alternative source of income for the cowboys and their families.

Each craftsman hand selects the antlers that will suit each lighting project. And they are trained in dying, metal working, and the sewing and hand-stretching of rawhide for lamp shades. All of these factors together help to create incredible unique light fixtures.

The selection is vast from large and small antler chandeliers to delicate antler lamps. You'll find bathroom light fixtures, table and floor lamps, and much more. This amazing selection means that no matter what your style or the size of your space, you are sure to find something that will add to your home decor just right.

Use larger items like large chandeliers to transform the style of a room into a beautiful and elegant rustic look. Or if you are looking to add small pops of style, look into the smaller table lamps, perfect for night stands in a bedroom.

Antler lighting is a fantastic example of nature and interior design coming together to create fabulous home décor for anyone and any style. If you choose to install a large light fixture, be sure to work with a buddy and have some electrical experience. If you are not comfortable with your electrical knowledge, please consult with an electrician or even consider hiring one for the job.

Your Guide to Conserving Energy with Your Lighting

Lighting is a factor of the home and work environment that involves our life in several ways. Lighting allows us to go on and perform our daily tasks and acts as an important decorative item within a home's design. Another main purpose of lighting is to ensure safety and security. It is even used simply for aesthetic purposes. But most of all, the consumption of electricity linked to lighting affects our financial position both in the home and office. The Department of Energy indicates that we spend an average of 5 to 10 percent of our electric bills on lighting in our households. In a number of regions in the United States this quantity can be as much as 25 percent where air-conditioning is a modest part of the bill. It's about time we start conserving energy with light fixtures.

Conserving energy with light fixtures is actually pretty easy to do today. First, let's get to know what to expect when considering saving energy on our lighting systems. Saving lighting energy calls for either minimizing electricity used up by the light bulbs and light fixtures or minimizing the period of time that the lights are on. This can be achieved in two ways.

First, you can simply cut down the period of time that lights are on. This can be done by utilizing dimmers and other lighting controls as well as teaching family members to switch off unnecessary lighting. Next, you can reduce wattage, which calls for replacing bulbs or whole fixtures with bulbs and fixtures that give off similar quantities or more quantities of light with but with lowered electricity usage. These days, this can be done most simply by replacing wasteful incandescent bulbs with incandescent/halogen bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs.

Whether your just trying to keep within the budget or if you are trying to be more eco-friendly, you may want to explore alternative greener lighting choices. It is approximated that compact fluorescent light bulbs utilize 75 percent less energy compared to previously designed light bulbs. This means more savings on your electric bill. Moreover, these bulbs generate considerably less heat and are therefore safer for your home too. They save more energy and endure longer than previous lighting designs. You may use compact fluorescent light bulbs in your bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, garage, utility rooms, family rooms, living rooms and patios fixtures. They are available in such a variety of sizes now that you can even use them in your most decorative fixtures such as your antler lighting

Another good option is LED lighting. LEDs are ideal for several applications within and outside the house or apartment. LEDs generate brighter light that is usually comparable to that of natural daylight, but at the same time burn with little to zero heat. They are usually very small and are very dependable and enduring regardless of the weather and temperature. LEDs are particularly nice for outdoor lighting, task lighting, utility rooms, track lighting, recessed lighting, desk lighting and nightlights.

With all these considerably new lighting fixtures, your options are endless. We can now provide more light to our lives while saving more energy, more money and of course, the environment.

Keep in mind that one of the most important things to do is to familiarize yourself with your home and its construction first. This is before you buy any lighting fixture, since every installation will be different. Using Chandelier Lighting and Wall Sconces to Add Style to Your Home

There are so many different types of home decor and ways to add to and improve the look of your home. It really runs the gamut from large scale remodels to replacing just a few key pieces that will give the room a fresh feel. Chandelier lighting is a great way to give a room in your home a new look without breaking the bank.

Chandeliers come in a wide range of styles, colors, sizes, and more. This variety makes chandeliers useful in just about any room in your home. Choose a small unit for a bedroom or small to medium living room, or a large fixture for a dining room, an entry way, or a living room with tall vaulted ceilings.

Light fixtures are especially nice for a revised home decor look because they are easy to coordinate with just about any design and they also coordinate well with other fixtures. On a relatively small budget, you can add a beautiful chandelier and complement it with a set of candle wall sconces. For a soft lighted feeling choose a candle chandelier; and then depending on the size of the room, a set of two or four sconces. What this does is gives you lighting options in addition to a gorgeous coordinated look. For full light, turn on the chandelier and sconces; for a medium level, go with just the chandelier; and for a low light level, turn on just the sconces.

Sconces are also available in many styles. Some of the more popular looks are rich wrought iron designs and candle styles. A common misconception is that sconces only work in halls and stairways, but when used in groups, they work extremely well in any type of room. They add a beautiful touch of style at an extremely reasonable price.

No matter what type of lighting you use to add to your home decor, keep in mind that safety should always be the number one priority when working with electricity. When it comes time to install your new items, if you do not feel comfortable with the job, be sure to consider hiring a professional electrician.

Secrets to Incorporating Antler Chandeliers and Lighting

Antler light fixtures are a great example of rustic or western motif and can add a great degree of style to your home if that is the look you are intending to achieve. This style can be a very dominant feature in a room, so think less is more in this case. If you apply the look with subtle accents, you will enjoy them for many years to come.

Antler light fixtures have a very natural and outdoorsy feel to them and they work particularly well in rooms that are decorated with warm tones and natural wood features. The most popular type is probably the antler chandelier; however you also have the option sconces, ceiling fans, and varying sizes of lamps too.

This style of lighting is great for the eclectic decorator or someone that is really interested in having truly unique pieces. This is because each fixture is made to order and each one will look a little different from the next. For items that include lamp shades, each shade is hand-pulled for a one-of-a-kind feel. This type of lighting is also very neutral in color, which is great for working with just about any palette.

As with any decorating project, there are some steps to start with. Be sure to consider the size of the room you are working in. You don't want to put a really large chandelier or fixture into a small or medium sized room. Work with your proportions. Once you know the general size you are looking for, start shopping. There is a fantastic selection of antler lighting online. Shop around for a reputable online furniture retailer and check out shipping and return options too before you make a purchase.

Design projects are really an art and a balancing act, be sure to not go over-the-top with the design theme. Employing too many elements of one strong style can make take over the room and make the décor feel overwhelming. Attempt to find balance in your design and incorporate one or two highly decorative items and then work in more subtle accent items.

Once you have purchased your new fixtures and it comes time for installation, be sure to do your research if you intend to do a DIY project. Also be sure to work with a partner, especially if you have a large fixture to install. If at any point you are unsure of the steps of installing your new fixture, be sure to consider hiring an electrician to finish the job. Safety should always remain the number one priority; in all DIY projects.

Using Iron Chandeliers in Kitchen Lighting Design

The kitchen is the busiest area in the most homes these days and kitchen lighting design is perhaps the most essential factor in kitchen interior design. The kitchen lighting needs to be able to generate the right amount of light for practical purposes like food prep and cleaning and at the same time that lighting also needs to be versatile enough to add just the right ambience for entertaining and dinners.

It used to be that kitchen lighting was very basic and utilitarian in style. It often utilized harsh florescent light tube bulbs. The problem with these types of lighting is that they are just too stark and not very decoratively appealing. Lucky for today's DIY renovator and designer, the florescent tube bulbs are not the norm anymore. Some popular items for kitchen decorative lighting today include an iron chandelier and accent lighting with wrought iron wall candle sconces.

If you have a nice large kitchen, there are a couple of different things you can do with a chandelier and accent lighting. A popular location for the chandelier is over the eating area. So over a full dining table, or over a medium or large island. Iron chandeliers come in a wide variety of sizes and styles, so really any size kitchen and décor style can be accommodated.

The chandelier will provide the bulk of the lighting for the room and there are a couple of ways to add accent and additional lighting. The most decorative option is to use wall sconces. They work nicely in pair and in sets of four, depending on how large the room is and how much or little additional lighting is desired. Other types of additional lighting that are nice for the kitchen are track and recessed can lighting. The best place for this type of lighting is typically over the sink.

For installation, read the manufacturer's instructions closely first. Working with a buddy is also advised when working with heavy objects, like chandeliers. For the actual bulbs, consider using energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs. If at any point during the project you feel uncomfortable at all, please consider hiring an electrician. Happy decorating!

Sconce Lighting: Not just for the Hallway Anymore

Wall sconces were once consider the lighting for hallways and stairways; but with the selection and styles now available online, the possibilities are endless. Sconces make for fabulous accent lighting in just about any room in the home. Styles available include wrought iron wall candle, multi-light sconces, art glass shaded, and much more.

Sconce lighting is great for generating a dash of either direct or indirect light. This is good for a couple of different things, direct lighting is nice for a reading nook in a living room or bedroom and indirect lighting can add the illusion that an area is bigger than it is. Because sconces are not the main source of light in most cases and because they are typically positioned near eye level, keep the bulb wattage low.

The rule of thumb is to install sconces 72 to 78 inches high on the wall. Any lower and they are too close to eye level. And if they are positioned higher than that, they will appear designed to illuminate the ceiling instead of the room itself. Accent lighting works well in groups, for an average to large room, place wall sconces about six feet apart from one another.

Wrought iron sconces are great for coordinating with larger light fixtures. For instance, if you already have a nice large iron chandelier in the dining room, consider adding four coordinating accent sconces. Look for sconces that have the same color scheme and decorative theme but don't necessarily match the chandelier exactly. This will create three levels of lighting in the space: chandelier alone, chandelier and sconces, or sconces alone.

Not only are wall sconces ideal for illuminating dark spaces in your home, but they are also particularly nice for generating ambience or mood; this works well in the bedroom and dining room when a romantic vibe is the goal. Wall sconces are also great for adding just the right touch of lighting in the bedroom when watching a movie or reading a book. Add a wall sconce in your laundry room to add a bit more interest to the boring space, or even position on in your dark hallway to make it more warm and cozy.

Wall scones are a great way to spice add light to any room in the home. Use them for a variety of purposes, functional or decorative. No matter your lighting need, a couple of wall sconces will likely do the job. As with any home project, especially one involving electricity, be sure to read the installation instructions and if you in need of assistance find a work partner or hire an electrician.

How to Determine the Placement and Quantity of Light Fixtures

Shopping for and adding new lighting to your home is a really fun way to spruce up a space. New light fixtures have the ability to brighten a room and completely change the look and feel for the better. When used in the right quantity and spaced properly, new lighting can bring a room from basic to fantastic in a snap.

Here are a couple of industry rules of thumb for you to keep in mind while shopping and installing new light fixtures.

  • General lighting: Figure about 65 watts for every 20 square feet. So if your room is 12' x 12', you will want about seven 65 watt bulbs placed around the room. There are many ways to do this, three in a fixture centrally located in the space and then four of one style of wrought iron candle sconce, or a larger central fixture and just one or two forms of task lighting; wrought iron lamps are great for this because they are not stationary, you can move them as you see fit.
  • General lighting in a bathroom: Consider one or two can lights for the main light switch. Two cans with 65 watt bulbs per 40 square feet is a good rule to follow in a space like this. You will also need task lighting over the vanity, look for fixtures that are approximately half the length of the vanity, so for a four foot vanity, look for a two foot fixture, in example. For a bathroom, the minimum, no matter the size of the space is a three-lamp fixture.
  • Placement: Whether it's centering in the room, or over a vanity, symmetry and centering is very important when it comes to lighting. For a very large room, the general rule is to break it down into two or three fixtures, then mount them the same distance from the wall and center. In a large bedroom, one centered fixture and four cans on the four walls, placed three feet off the wall is a really nice placement and look.

Follow these rules of thumb and you are sure to love the placement of your new lighting. Just remember that symmetry and centering are your friends here. Really, you can never have too much lighting in a room, and a great way to keep your lighting variable is to add a dimmer switch. This allows for customization depending on the time of day and amount of light desired.

As always when working with electrical projects, make safety your top priority. If you get to installation and feel uneasy with the project, consider hiring an electrician to help you.

How to Install Large Wrought Iron Chandelier Light Fixtures

Once you purchase your new wrought iron chandelier, you need to decide who will install it. Consider your skills and determine if you are going to take on the installation yourself or if you would feel better having a professional do it. For information on how to install a large wrought iron chandelier, read on below.

You will need several parts and tools to install a chandelier. Of course you need the chandelier itself and all of the parts that come with it. You will also need a step ladder, a metal outlet box, wire nuts, a small wood strip, an expandable bracket (typically used for ceiling fans), a circuit tester, and a small bracket that has bolts attached. The tools needed are pliers, an adjustable wrench, wire cutters, wire strippers, a putty knife, a drywall saw, a carpenter's pencil, a power drill, drill bits, a flat-head screwdriver, and a Phillips screwdriver.

For the metal outlet box, select a box used for ceiling fans, a standard ceiling outlet box will support a fixture weighing less than 30 pounds. A metal box for ceiling fans will support a fixture up to 60 pounds.

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

Any time you work on a do-it-yourself electrical project, be sure to turn off the circuit breaker before beginning. After you've turned off the circuit breaker and the light switch, use your circuit tester to verify that no power is being channeled to the circuits.

Step 2: Remove Existing Lighting Fixtures

Before you can install your new wrought iron chandelier, you'll need to remove any lighting fixtures that already exist in the desired location. This involves exposing the electric box by removing the canopy and then disconnecting any wires. Remember, if your new chandelier is more than 30 pounds, be sure to change the box out for a 60 pound box.

Step 3: New Electrical Box Installation

For this, the first thing you need to do is use your carpenter's pencil to draw a circle in the exact location where you plan to install the wrought iron chandelier. Use the drywall saw and cut out the circle. Next you'll need to install the electrical box using the expandable bracket and small bracket.

Step 4: Wiring

This step involves connecting the wires. You'll need to thread them through the electrical box. Then separate the wires and remove about a half inch of the insulation with the wire strippers. After this is done, the wires can be connected.

Step 5: Hole Patching

Now you need to patch the hole where your old fixture was. Take a wood strip that iss wider than the hole, put it up inside the ceiling or wall to cover the hole and glue it down and then cover with a sheet rock patch.

Additional Tips:

Make sure that your new chandelier fits the scale of the room nicely. You can adjust the level at which the chandelier hangs to help it fit the room better.

Don't forget that, after installation, chandliers requires regular maintenance. You will need chandelier cleaner to properly care for your light fixture. Before cleaning your wrought iron chandelier, turn the power off, using the wall switch. Cover the bulbs with baggies secured with rubber bands, this protects the fixture from cleaning solution running down into the electric parts of your chandelier.

Spray down the entire chandelier with the cleaner and either let it drip dry if it's not too dirty, or wipe the entire thing down with a clean cloth. Micro fiber towels work very well for this. Once the light fixture is dry, remove the baggies, spray some cleaner on a clean cloth, and wipe down each bulb. Be certain that the entire wrought iron chandelier is completely dry before turning it back on. Simply dust the chandelier lamp shades.

Safety is always the most important part of any project, especially when electricity is involved. If you are not comfortable with any portion of this project, be sure to look into a professional electrician.

How to Hang and Install Ceiling Light Fixtures

Whether you are hanging a new or replacement ceiling light fixture, you must have the right tools and know-how for the job. The main tools needed for successful installation are:

1. An assistant

2. Two ladders (one tall enough to reach the ceiling and the other for your assistant)

3. Two or three screwdrivers (one Phillips head)

4. Pliers

5. Small wire cutter

6. One utility knife

7. Electrical tape

8. Fasteners

9. Drill and bits

10. Wire nuts

11. Wire strippers

Safety first

Once you have the above tools ready, turn off the power at the circuit breaker that for that section of the building or home. Also turn the switch to the off position. Make sure the ladder is firmly planted on the floor. It is highly recommended that you use a step ladder.

Have your assistant there to help you when it comes time to actually hang the ceiling light fixture. This is especially important if the ceiling light fixture is large and bulky. This person will help hold the fixture as you attach the wires and lift it into place.

Installing the Ceiling Light

Since this is an electrical item, it is important to read and closely follow the instructions that come with the fixture. Before you can even begin the installation process, it is important to ensure that there is appropriate wiring for installing a ceiling light fixture. If there is, you will need to make sure that they are in order for a new installation.

Take all the parts of the fixture out of the container and arrange them in the order in which they will be used. The person assisting you should be able to pass the pieces to you as needed.

The Steps

1. First you will need to install the mounting bracket that came with the new fixture. If you have an old one already in place remove it.

2. Determine which wires are the neutral wires, both the one in the ceiling and the one on the light fixture. They are generally white. Use the wire strippers to remove approximately a half inch of the covering to expose the copper wires. Twist the exposed ends together, preferably in a clockwise position, and place the wire nut on. Tighten the wire nut by twisting in a clockwise direction. To ensure a tight connection, tug lightly on each wire separately.

3. Do the same thing with the black wires. These are the wires that conduct the electricity. Make sure that all wires are pushed into the electrical box and out of the way before proceeding.

4. Now that the wires are done, it is time to hang the new fixture. Get your assistant to hold the lighting fixture so that you can reach it safely when you are ready. You will need your assistant to hold the fixture for you while you are connecting it to the electrical wiring in the ceiling.

It is not impossible to do it by yourself, but this will call for you to the second step ladder. You will need it to place the light fixture on so that you can safely reach it when ready. However, this method is not ideal if the unit is large and you will find that having a second pair of hands minimizes the strain.

5. Finally screw in your bulbs and put the globe cover in place.

Before tidying up and firmly hanging the light fixture, do a trial run. Turn on the breaker and the light switch to ensure that everything works properly. Also check to see if there are any exposed wires that may cause problems later on. Remove the bulb you used for testing the fixture. Once the fixture is working properly, you can now firmly hang it by securely screwing it to the ceiling or the brackets provided. Remember to turn off power again before finalizing the project.

It is important to know that different types of light fixtures will require variations in installation. It is necessary to read the installation manual before beginning the installation process to ensure a job well done. This is true no matter how many installations you have done.

Adding chandliers is a great way to spruce up the look and feel of your home with one simple change. Know your limits though, if you do not feel comfortable with any portion of the project, be sure to hire a professional electrician.

How to Wire a Light Fixture

With a little research and the right equipment, changing out a light fixture can become a simple DIY home project. Once you have some experience under your belt, the whole project, from start to finish, should take about an hour. Before you begin your project, consider asking a friend or your spouse to work with you. Two sets of hands are better than one.

First line up all the tools and parts needed for the wiring project. Lay everything out in the order they will be used; an organized workspace helps with a smooth workflow. In addition to the items that come with the fixture, you will need a ladder, a small saw, some pliers, an assortment of screwdrivers, electrical tape, putty, a drill and drill bits, and wire strippers. Next-and this is probably the most important step of all-turn off the power at both the switch and the circuit breaker.

If you are hanging your light fixture from the ceiling but do not have a ceiling outlet box, you will have to install one. Mark the area where you are placing the light fixture for installation. Cut a hole in the ceiling according to the exact size of the box and feed the hanger bar into the hole up inside the attic and rest it flat on the ceiling and twist the bar to expand it into the studs. Connect the feed cable to the ceiling box and clamp the electrical wire down with a cable clamp. Finally attach the ceiling box and the wire to the hanger bar, connect to a power source and you're ready to wire the fixture. You will need to fish a wire from the attic space to the outlet box. Begin by drilling a hole; then fish the wire from the attic through the wall cavity to the switch box. You can purchase cable fishing tape at your local hardware store; they will greatly aid you in this process.

There are many different kinds of outlet boxes and mounting devices available depending on the kind of light fixture you're working with. Speak to the customer service representative at the hardware store if you're not sure about which one to get.

Once you've run the wire to your light box, it's time to wire the light fixture, do another check to make sure the power is turned off at the circuit breaker before handling the wiring. There will be a black and white wire hanging out of the hole in the ceiling box or the wall. Use wire strippers to cut about half an inch of the insulation off both wires to expose the copper underneath. Affix the mounting bracket for the light fixture. The black wire in the light fixture should be connected to the black wire in the electrical box. Connect the two corresponding white wires in the same way.

The bare copper wire you see in the box is the ground wire. This one usually connects to a green screw. Be sure not to remove the insulation inside the light fixture. This is what keeps the heat from the bulb from over heating the wires inside. Next, fit the fixture over the mounting bolts. The finish trim screws go in last, but not too tightly because doing so might crack the glass.

Some other things to consider when wiring a light fixture include the kind of light fixture: fluorescent light bars, candle chandeliers, or a simple bulb with a lampshade covering it. You also need to plan the route of the wiring. If you want something like having one switch turn on two or three lights or an additional outlet, this can be done, be sure to follow the instructions closely and properly. If this is too advanced for you, it might be time to hire a professional electrician.

If you follow the instructions closely and make sure the power source is switched off while you work, this is a very doable DIY project. Remember, safety is the number one priority. If you are uncertain about any portion of the project, consider hiring a professional electrician.

Decorating with Sconce Lighting

Wall sconces are really great for hallways, stairways, home entries, and really any living space that could benefit from accent lighting. Adding a wall sconce is just like incorporating any type of new light fixture. The only difference is the location and the kind of fixture box utilized. As with ceiling lights, you can vary the number of lights controlled by a single switch and it's best to affix the fixture box to a framing member as well as the drywall or plaster.

Sconce Lighting Essentials

Sconce lighting can be used to generate a dash of added light to give the illusion that an area is larger than it is. Generally, it is ideal to add wall sconces to one wall where the accent or indirect lighting is necessary. Wall sconces also function particularly well in groups, consider one sconce on the four walls of the room. They are also nice when used to complement another light, such as a dining room chandelier. They are ideal for specific activities, such as reading.

Generally, you should install sconces 72 to 78 inches high. Any lower and they could get in the way and if they are positioned too high they won't cast the appropriate amount of light. When using more than one sconce, position them six feet apart or more.

Not only are wall sconces ideal for adding illumination to darker spaces in your home, but they also do well in generating a particular ambience or mood in some rooms. You may install a wall sconce in your laundry room to add a bit more interest to an otherwise boring space, or even position one in your dark hallway to make it more warm and cozy. Wall sconces are also great for bedrooms, since they can present light adequate enough when watching a movie or as a nightlight.

Wall scones are a great way to spice up any room in the home. They can be used for a variety of purposes, functional and decorative. A wrought iron sconce will be especially nice for adding a decorative touch. Use them to accent a wall, a work of art, or to add to the beauty of an intricate wallpaper design. Just about any area of your room can benefit from accent lighting with a wall sconce or two.

As with any DIY home project, safety should remain your number one priority. If you are not experienced with electricity, then consider hiring a professional electrician to see you through the installation of your new light fixtures.

Create a Soft Look with Wrought Iron Sconces

Wrought iron sconces add a unique, old-world allure to any living space. In fact, since it was often utilized in early American society as the only type of interior lighting, candle wall sconces are essentially reminiscent of a rustic, romantic time. They are particularly attractive at night, evoking a more relaxed and subdued lighting compared to other conventional lighting sources. Sconces are available with electric bulbs that look just like actual candles. They are available in a wide range of designs and you can often choose between pillar candle style and candelabra style bulbs.

An advantage to using sconces is that because they are relatively inexpensive, you can do as many or as few as will fit in your budget. You can use them as the primary fixture in a room, or as accents to coordinate with a larger fixture. One or two sconces work perfectly in a bathroom and four, one on each wall, look spectacular in a dining room or living room.

Candles are known for their ability to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere with their relaxing and subdued glow. Now you can achieve the same level of relaxation with your light fixtures. Go with low wattage bulbs to preserve an appealing and relaxed feel. A functional alternative would be to utilize a light dimmer switch with stronger bulbs.

Sconces are available in a variety of styles. Contemporary, antique, classic, and more; you’ll find a variety of different metals used and many retailers offer the opportunity to choose lamp shades if you decide to go with candelabra lights. Wrought iron is particularly popular and you will find sconces in any style from ornate carvings to simple, clean lines.

Now that you have an idea of what is available, you are ready to incorporate wrought iron sconces into your own home. If you wish to accentuate something with a wall sconce, make sure the sconce coordinates well and doesn’t overpower that which you want to accent.

Sconces can be easily mounted to the wall of any room. Most sconces have a plate that connects directly to the wall; then the light extends slightly from the wall. Your new wall sconce should come with easy to follow mounting instruction, so be sure to follow them closely. As with any home project, be sure to keep safety as a top priority. If you are not experienced with electrical projects, consider hiring an electrician to help you.

However, don’t get stuck in the dining room, because this tip goes for the living room and really any other room in the home too.

Some Suggestions:

Looking for rawhide and leather chandelier lamp shades for your wrought iron chandelier is an ideal way to achieve a brilliant western-feeling design. These merge very well with wood-based furniture and southwestern accents. It is quite common to find these types of fixtures in hunting lodges, western homes, and restaurants where a rustic or western design theme is incorporated. It’s actually very simple to apply western design into your house just by installing a rustic chandelier.

Since you’re going for a rustic theme, know what rustic design is all about. The rustic color scheme usually involves natural and earth tones such as browns and greens. The natural color of rawhide evokes a certain warmth and welcoming atmosphere. One main reason leather lighting fixtures are so popular is because of the wide range of choices. When redesigning with a certain color palette, you have your choice of several different colors of rawhide shade, so coordinating is a snap.

No matter which design you choose for your rustic themed space, if you choose a good quality rustic chandelier, you’re sure to impress your guests. Many rustic chandeliers are made by hand, presenting a particular uniqueness that is absent in many commercially produced lighting fixtures.

These days, you’ll be able to find chandeliers in rustic designs that don’t use real candles. You can now find candle chandeliers that are fitted with special bulbs that imitate candlelight. A popular choice among homebuyers is a large wrought iron chandelier with leather chandelier lamp shades. These are ideally placed above a dining table or the front hall for that truly rustic feel.
